The FCM emerges as a philanthropic organization, but what is philanthropy?

Philanthropy

In many cases, philanthropy is associated with charity from those who have much to those who do not, but its meaning and various practices go beyond that.

Philanthropy comes from the Greek "love for humanity," meaning the sentiment that drives people to help others selflessly; we can all help and be helped at some point; it is cooperation and the pursuit of common well-being that drives philanthropy.

Community Philanthropy

Mutual aid, volunteering, mingas, associative work are some of the names that expressions of community philanthropy have in different territories. We put into practice the theory that organized communities can address their challenges and preserve their cultural wealth.

Traveler Philanthropy

We identify opportunities and create alliances with tourism businesses to capture a percentage of visitor income and direct it to community-led projects.

Without the rich history of community philanthropy in Monteverde, traveler philanthropy would not be possible in a region that, before being a tourist destination, is a living community.
